Last Leg

1. 8000+ words off my dissertation and just a bit more to go. Very determined to get it out of the way by wednesday. It has been lurking in the background since I started school last October and at least I am reaching a certain first draft. Would tell you more about it once it's finished...

2. Start packing for NYC! Seeking sartorial inspiration from my flickr favourites (as shown above) and also astounded by the sheer amount of blue jumpers and breton shirts I have. Eeeeek.

Les yeux clairs

I will describe my eyes and then begin the story. My eyes are blue and resplendent. Now I will begin the story.

Dans le fond des forêts votre image me suit

I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.
- Henry David Thoreau

Giving up meat de-cluttering started running stopped buying things. I am stripping away the periphery so that all I have is the essence of my being. This task at hand alone is enough to keep me focused and running and running and running in those dark nights and among blossoming trees. The promise of spring and the tears of joy. For that alone I will strive. For life alone I will strive.

Nothing scares me more than indifference and mediocrity.

Doing everything but writing

*Hemingway with cat, from here

About a non-typing night by Charles Bukowski
(thanks to The Cat Ladies for sharing)

She phones, "You done any writing?"
"No", I say
"What ya been doing?"
"Is there anybody there with you?"
"Just the cat."
"And you haven't done any writing?"
"Do you feel all right"?
"I 'm ok."
"How come you haven't phoned?"
"I did", I tell her.
"That was earlier" (Pause)
"And you haven't done any writing?"

Writing is not a God damned job.
I 've had lots of God damned jobs.
And if writing ever gets to be a
God damned job,
I ll look for another one.
I know she means well,
I do too.

Slow water runs deep

Amazing photography by Osma Harvilahti

Being profound and seeming profound. - Those who know that they are profound strive for clarity. Those who would like to seem profound to the crowd strive for obscurity. For the crowd believes that if it cannot see to the bottom of something it must be profound. It is so timid and dislikes going into the water.

Room Service

Room Service by the Second Bus Home satisfies my voyeuristic fantasies into the most stylish homes in town. I am in love with the clutters, spontaneity and authenticity that the photos convey. Nothing too fancy, ordered or deliberate - the room owners open up their rooms as they are, and we catch a glimpse of how their characters shape the space they are in.

I especially like the home of Sara Sig, a photographer based in London. The interview is here and since this is a regular feature in Vogue Portugal, all content is in Portuguese - but the photos always speak for themselves.

*Vintage Chanel button ring Giveaway!

This lovely ring was bought from etsy a year ago; it is made with a vintage Chanel button (look at the gold CC logo! mmm) with an adjustable ring attached. I haven't been wearing it for a while (since I only wear either a tiny gold ring or my grandmother's ring now) and everything I catch a glance of it on the mantle, I feel that it deserves an owner who would wear it much more often!

To enter the giveaway, please follow me on bloglovin' and/or like the post on bloglovin' and leave a comment below by 14 March (next monday). International readers are welcome too! Bonne chance :)

A valentine's day present from krisatomic. Thanks hun (:

A pair of cat print satin heels from miu miu would be too decadent and too delicate to be worn; but a beautiful watercolour print of it is just right. It sits quietly by the corner surrounded by real shoes - real shoes wear and tear and eventually perish, these miu miu heels would be immortal.

*from here

It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade.
Charles Dickens

It is the first month of spring and also the month of Mars, the Roman god of war. As the hot sun shines on our cold faces let us not forget those who are in the midst of their war, persistently fighting against prolonged oppression and fear. Let March be the awakening from this eternal winter.

Fear gone wild

Anxiety is not fear, exactly, because fear is focused on something right in front of you, a real and objective danger. It is instead a kind of fear gone wild, a generalized sense of dread about something out there that seems menacing — but that in truth is not menacing, and may not even be out there. If you’re anxious, you find it difficult to talk yourself out of this foreboding; you become trapped in an endless loop of what-ifs.
